Wedding Reception FAQ

One of the most important days of your life, after months and months of planning, is now underway. You're leaving the church with your new spouse, duck the incoming rice, hop into the limo, and take off for the reception hall. So far, the day is running smoothly... exactly as planned.
How do you know the reception will continue your perfect day? By hiring an experienced, top-notch DJ/MC... who will guarantee that your memories -- and those of your guests -- will be filled with smiles every time the evening is remembered.
During the reception, your grand entrance will be announced. Dinner music will follow, and the events will be carried out in the order you have specified... the music that is important to you
and your guests. The DJ will keep the reception running smoothly (so you don't have to worry about anything other than visiting with family and friends -- and enjoying your night to remember.)
Music is one of the most important and memorable
parts of a reception. Weeks or months later, reception guests
seldom remember the meal, but always remember if the
entertainer did a great job!!
Why use a DJ instead of
live music?
Here are just a few reasons...
Price: Bands, even smaller ones, usually cost
twice as much, or more, than a Disc Jockey would. At Tunes to Go, your DJ and Master of Ceremonies (MC) is a real professional that's played MANY receptions. Quality: DJ's play the ORIGINAL Music, the way
everyone knows it. Bands may play the same songs, but they
probably won't be as recognizable to you and your guests and
if they don't practice regularly, they may not sound good at
all. DJ's don't have to practice their music, it's from the
original artist! Quantity: DJ's have THOUSANDS of songs
available with a very wide variety of music types, bands
usually know how to play less than 100 and the variety is
usually limited. Remember, you want ALL your guests, young
AND old, to have a good time. And your guests WILL remember whether the entertainment was good or bad... long after they forget who sat with them at their table or how good the cake tasted. Volume: Tunes To Go plays background music while guests arrive, and music set to low volume so people can chat during dinner (rather than shout over a band, who usually will have a problem controlling volume -- if they play during dinner at all). This adds character and 'fills out' your reception by adding another dimension to your important night and the guests' enjoyment. Requests: Some DJ's can accommodate
requests from you and your guests. Most
bands don't take requests, except in advance, and cannot
play them if they don't know the song. Versatility: DJ's can
play the music for your Ceremony, Cocktails, Dinner AND
Dancing, including those special songs you want to hear.
They can also MC the various reception events, such as the cake cutting or garter toss. Bands have to learn those
special songs and may not be able to play your special requests at all.
Availability: Bands take breaks, sometimes L O N G ones, which means you may lose some guests before all the important events are done. We make sure the music
never stops, so your guests can keep dancing all night long,
and we mix in the events throughout your reception. Non-Stop
Music: DJ's play music non-stop, usually 'mixing' from one
song to the next. Bands end each song, then pause while they
decide which song to play next. This 'breaks up' the dancing
after every song and the dance floor clears out each gap.
How far in advance should I hire a DJ for a
wedding? Wedding planning largely depends on the
month of the ceremony. The months of May, June, September,
and October are the most popular months for weddings. If you
are planning a wedding within these months expect to meet
with your Disc Jockey several months before the ceremony.
Interactive DJs
If you hire a DJ, be sure to ask them how interactive they are with the guests. We've had clients who told us of horror stories from other receptions where the DJ overshadowed the bride and groom... dominating the spotlight, dancing center-stage and generally acting like an idiot. Tunes To Go does not steal the bride and groom's thunder and we remain 100% professional at all times.

Who Coordinates The Reception? Another reason
wedding couples choose a Disc Jockey is the selection of
music can span across a wide variety of ages and tastes.
Your Disc Jockey will also act as Master of Ceremonies, to
help maintain the proper flow during the reception. Your
Disc Jockey coordinates with your photographer, to ensure
you get the best photos for your wedding album; They
coordinate with your function facility, to ensure everyone
involved with your function knows exactly what is happening
at all times. So while you may be thinking of a Disc Jockey
just for the music, it is important to consult with them before your wedding day, to discuss the desired
order of events. The toast, cutting of the wedding cake, and
the bouquet and garter toss are just a few. As your Disc
Jockey will be introducing you and your wedding party, it is
important they know the pronunciation of all the names. Your
Disc Jockey will usually ask for the phonetic spelling of
any challenging names. The Right Music... Having a Disc
Jockey you can trust to handle all the important details,
and be your master of ceremonies is very important. Where
your Disc Jockey should really shine, is knowing what music
will entertain your guests, and get them out on the dance
floor. As a general rule, the guests will not dance until
after the Bride and Groom have had their first dance. This
may be followed immediately by any other special dances you
choose, such as the bride and her father and groom and his
mother, etc... In most cases your Disc Jockey will kick off
the dance portion of your reception after the special
dances.
Proper Planning...Proper planning for your wedding day
should include giving your Disc Jockey a guideline of the
types of music (Dance, Country, Oldies) that you would like
to be played. We provide a form for you to complete well in advance of the date, which includes much of this information. (Click on DOWNLOADS, then select the 'reception info' document). Also let us know if you have any specific songs or artists you are fond of to
be sure we bring them. And most of all, by hiring Tunes To Go, you'll be able to enjoy yourself!!
Remember.... Your wedding day is a time to celebrate.... So
relax, dance, and let Tunes To Go handle the details of entertaining everyone. We are professionals, and will ensure all your guests will remember YOUR special day for a long time to come.
We hope this brief summary has helped guide you in choosing
your entertainment. If you have any questions, just give us a call.
Remember, for a day as important as your wedding, entertainment isn't expensive... it's priceless.
